PublicStuff Resident Facing Mobile Apps

As the Lead UX/UI Designer at PublicStuff I have taken a product that millions of citizens from Palo Alto, CA to Dubai use on a daily basis and have been able to provide them Front Door Access to their City Halls.

With the resident facing mobile app we needed to be able to provide a white label app that would work for hundreds of communities large and small, desert to tundra, rich and poor and make it feel like it was designed specifically for them in mind. Most other apps in our category do not provide the resident an enjoyable user experience, and do not have the benefit of city specific branding, I set out to change that. This mobile app redesign played a strong role in our acquisition to Accela.

Gov.PublicStuff CRM

PublicStuff is the Front Door to City Hall, I am currently in the process of redoing our backend CRM which our local governemnts use on a daily basis.

Gov.Publicstuff provides the governments access to be able to filter, sort, create and order any data that has come in from resident facing requests, whether through the app, iFrame or a local call center. The old gov.publicstuff was really just a tool that provided the gov a way to view requests, the new publicstuff took it a step further to be able to provide more actionable data. The examples below are showing our reporting mechanism which allows government employees a way to create their own reports, whether it be with only closed pothole requests, or all requests for the month of July. We have created an interface that allows for the utmost customization through filtering as well as different visualization techniques.

PublicStuff iFrame

For residents that do not have smartphones or prefer to submit service requests via their computer, we provided them an outlook via an iFrame on their local government's site. The iFrame's we provide are white label and allow the city the ability to closely follow their city branding guidelines. The responsiveness of the iFrame also helps it to fit into many different size websites.

Slice Shopping

Slice provides the simplest way to keep track of everything you buy online. As the Visual and Interactive Designer at Slice I worked with all teams including the API, Engineering, Intelligence and Product Teams to create a consistent brand experience across all of our platforms. Below is a sampling of my work created at Slice that is public.

I played a significant role in the conceptualization and development of the 3.0 Slice Shopping app. The redesign was started in April 2013. The app refresh had two main goals. One was to introduce new services, such as price drops and product recalls with the ability to easily add more. The second was to have a UI refresh that better worked with current trends in the app space.

For the tablet apps we started with our core service, package tracking and made it much more visible.I introduced even larger images and the ability for our users to really focus on the core of the app, package tracking. We also wanted our users, similar to the mobile, to have easy access to the items they bought and what services are applied to that item, such as searching the Consumer Product Safety Comission for a recall, or keeping an eye on Nordstrom.com to find if the item has dropped in price. We introduced full spread Price Drop and Recall pages to the iPad. .

Slice Bookshelf

Slice Bookshelf is the easiest way to discover and share books with friends.

Bookshelf was one of my first large projects at Slice. We wanted to take our receipt technology another step and get into the book space, we wanted a way for our users to easily have access to ALL the books they own and be able to have discussions with their Facebook friends and other Slice users. For bookshelf we wanted the social aspect to be front and center, users to be able to share what book they are currently reading, their thoughts on that book, which other friends have that book, want to read that book, and the ability to ask the user to physically borrow the book. I was Lead Visual designer on Bookshelf.

Center on Access Technology - RIT

The Center on Access Technology at NTID (National Technical Institute for the Deaf), RIT, investigates and reports on the most effective and efficient uses of access technologies, it is the only center in the world dedicated to advancing access technologies for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. We were posed with the challenge of designing an identity system for the center and their four sister programs. The mayor of Honeoye Falls, a Village in Monroe County, NY, requested a brand image overhaul of the Village. The new image is expected to increase residential size, fill up empty storefronts and promote business and tourism. Java Jamma is my dream coffee shop, not only serving the best coffee from around the world but satisfying the needs of the busy parent. The shop was developed with the vision of a global theme where parents and children simultaneously engage in the ambience of different nations. Parents and other adults socializing with friends or having a quiet moment alone sip a cup of delicious coffee while children are playing and learning about different cultures through toys and other interactive, hands-on activities. Designs include logo, coffee bean packaging, cup logo design, and mood boards for adult and child areas.
